Let’s say you’re an American citizen strolling along Pier 14 in San Francisco enjoying an afternoon in the sun with your daughter. Without any warning you hear a handgun discharge behind you, and before you can turn around to look the bullet pierces your daughter’s back and she dies in your arms.
In the next few days, the family gets a phone call from the mayor expressing his condolences for the loss of your daughter — but there is no apology for the “sanctuary city” policy that let an illegal alien with a lengthy criminal and deportation record stay in San Francisco and kill your child.
Months later the illegal will go on trial, and if he’s convicted members of the family will be able to perform as victims in front of the judge and jury. But that’s assuming the prosecution doesn’t decide to quietly plea–bargain the case away to spare the city a high–profile and embarrassing publicity–filled trial.
Contrast the treatment of Kate Steinle’s family with a bill currently awaiting the signature of California Gov. Jerry Brown that grants extensive privileges to illegal aliens that are victims of crime. The bill is laughably titled the “Immigrant Victims of Crime Equity Act” and Breitbart News reports it passed an illegal–coddling California Senate by a unanimous 66 – 0.
This bill would reward lawbreakers that are victims of violent crime “by requiring state and local law enforcement agencies to provide immigrants who have cooperated with investigations of those crimes the necessary certifications to apply for special visas.”
State Sen. Kevin de Leon told the Times of San Diego, “Every time a criminal goes free because the victim fears deportation and the police, we are all a little less safe. Fear and mistrust are obstacles to the administration of justice.”
What deportation and what fear? Mexico deports more illegals than the US and Obama has rolled out the longest welcome mat in history.
This bill just makes it harder to get rid of any of the state’s estimated 2.5 million illegals. And whom do you think is committing these crimes? I can assure you it’s not people like the Steinles. In the vast majority of cases it is illegal–on–illegal crime.
So thanks to de Leon we could have a situation where an illegal alien MS–13 gangbanger shoots and wounds an illegal that’s a member of a competing gang. The wounded gangbanger not only gets to remain in the U.S., he gets to serve as an anchor for the rest of his extended family to remain, too.
If you can find the “equity” in that then you are a better detective than I am.
