Cumulus's 77 WABC Radio announced the debut of "Drive at Five with Curtis Sliwa" Tuesday, as the long-time fixture on New York airways and Guardian Angels founder gets his second show at the station.

Sliwa co-hosts the afternoon program "The Curtis and Kuby Show" with Ron Kuby, from noon to 3 p.m. on 77 WABC. The new show will air from 5-6 p.m. and feature a "fast-paced, comprehensive look at the stories and people that have New York talking."

The show will also feature breaking news, news analysis, newsmaker interviews and listener opinions.

"My job will be to take people from their suites to the streets and re-connect them with everything that has transpired while they've been working their nine to five jobs," said Sliwa.

Sliwa has been on the New York airways for 24 years, 20 of those with 77 WABC Radio. He first teamed with Kuby in 1996, going on to host a morning talk show and then uniting for an afternoons show in 2014. He was named to the New York State Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2013.

"Curtis Sliwa's core ideas resonate well beyond the streets safeguarded by The Guardian Angels," said Sliwa's WABC Radio biography. "With a unique combination of conviction and charisma, he often speaks before corporate teams, media professionals, senior executives, non-profit associations and educators.

"Drawing upon community activism as a backdrop, Sliwa draws direct comparisons. The challenge is this: 'You have to get involved in the process. Don't sit on the sidelines,'" says the biography.

Sliwa founded the Guardian Angels in 1979, a volunteer-based organization that dedicated to protecting local communities. Since the organization's founding it has grown to 130 safety patrol chapters around the world, noted the group.

"Like all of our hosts, Curtis is a larger than life personality, trusted by New York listeners," said Craig Schwab, program director for 77 WABC Radio. "Adding this program to his great work on 'The Curtis and Kuby Show' is a natural fit for his exceptional abilities."
