With April the giraffe’s February due date long past, watchers are beginning to wonder if the pregnancy was just a big, extended April Fools' joke?
Millions are tuning in to her live web feed at Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, New York, to see her give birth, but their patience is beginning to wear thin as weeks pass with no labor.
Some are tweeting that they think they may have been played, according to Inside Edition.
One user was even willing to bet $100 that it was all a hoax. The speculation started as early as Feb. 27, according to this tweet.
As April Fools' Day nears, dozens of Twitter users have grabbed onto the theory to explain the long wait until delivery day. Others pointed out that her name is April, which would play right into the joke.
Zoo owner Jordan Patch insisted to Inside Edition that the pregnancy is real, however.
“While I could understand that it would be a really neat elaborate hoax, it is not that. It is 15 months to 16 months work of buildup to an exciting moment,” Patch said.” I would hope that on April 1 the world does find out she was pregnant. Wouldn’t it be unique to have a calf that day?”
