Obamas Score NYC Standing Ovation During Lunch Meeting With U2's Bono

Barack Obama scored a New York City standing ovation on Friday when he and Michelle Obama met U2 singer Bono for lunch at Upland restaurant.

Diners stood and snapped pictures over shouts of "we love you Obama!" as the former president left the Park Avenue eatery, People magazine reported.

According to The Telegraph, Obama received a similar reaction last month when he was spotted arriving at a New York office building.

Friday's meeting was not a first for Obama and Bono. In 2011, the U2 singer met POTUS for lunch at the White House and even played a little guitar for him.

This story is better than the photo. Back in 2011, the President invited Bono and Alicia Keys to lunch in his private dining room adjacent to the Oval Office. Bono asks where he should sit. Potus says sit wherever there's a chair. Bono sees a guitar case in the corner, a campaign memento from Rock The Vote event. Bono quickly tunes the guitar and starts playing/singing Norwegian Wood by the Beatles. Why? Because the second verse goes like this: "She asked me to stay And she told me to sit anywhere So I looked around And I noticed there wasn't a chair" In the midst of this, the President looks back at me and says, "How cool is this?"

Obama has seemingly been enjoying himself since his eight-year stint as commander-in-chief ended in January. Last month, he was spotted kitesurfing and foilboarding with Richard Branson while vacationing in the British Virgin Islands.

“For . . . eight years he didn’t have the chance to surf, enjoy watersports or do many of the things he loved,” Branson, the founder of Virgin Group, wrote in a blog post. "So it was tremendous to offer him the chance to learn to kitesurf."
