Caroline Biden, VP's Niece, Arrested After Spat With NYC Roomie

Caroline Biden, the vice president's 26-year-old niece, was arrested Tuesday in New York City after allegedly trying to hit a police officer who was trying to break up a fight between the girl and her roommate.

Police responded to a Tribeca apartment building Tuesday morning after the doorman called 911 and said he heard yelling coming from the third floor. Biden and her roommate, Adrienne Reynolds, were reportedly arguing over rent money that Biden owed, a law enforcement source told the New York Daily News.

Biden allegedly got physical with the officers who responded to the scene.

"The female officer started to fill out paperwork, and Biden objected to it and lunged at the female officer," the police source said. "She kinda swung at the officer. The male officer intervened and Biden became uncooperative and aggressive."

A maintenance worker at Biden's apartment building told the Daily News that the women share a one-bedroom unit that runs $3,000-$5,000 a month.

She was placed under arrest and transported to the 1st Precinct stationhouse where she continued to resist.

"She continued to struggle with cops, clinging to the bars of a jail cell as cops tried to shoehorn her inside," the Daily News reported. "Her hands had to be pried off the bars to get her in the cell."

Biden later complained of "not feeling well" and was taken Beth Israel Hospital. Paramedics wheeled her from the police station covered entirely in a white sheet, so as not to be photographed. She reportedly told authorities she hadn't taken her medication for a pre-existing heart condition.

Joe Biden's niece was ultimately issued a desk appearance ticket for charges of misdemeanor obstruction of governmental administration, resisting arrest, and harassment with physical contact.

Several media outlets had some fun with the story of Biden's arrest, including New York magazine's Daily Intelligencer which compiled a pie chart of possible reasons for arguing with one's roommate.

Biden, a Georgetown University graduate who works at an upper East Side art gallery, is the daughter of Joe Biden's brother, James Biden Sr.
