Elijah Cummings is recovering after undergoing a "minimally invasive" heart surgery on Wednesday.
Cummings, the Maryland Democrat who serves on the House Oversight Committee, underwent a trans arterial aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedure with the hopes of correcting his "narrowing" aortic valve, according to The Hill.
The surgery was successful and the aortic valve was replaced.
Cummings will remain in Baltimore at Johns Hopkins hospital — where he had the surgery — for the next few days to recover.
According to the American Heart Association, Cummings' heart surgery was a “minimally invasive surgical procedure [that] repairs the valve without removing the old, damaged valve.”
Once he returns to his normal schedule, the 66-year-old, who has been vocal in his criticism of President Donald Trump, will likely continue to push the committee to keep "aggressively" investigating potential ties between Trump's campaign and Russia — something he's been a proponent of in the nation's capital, The Washington Post noted.
