Lara Logan Hospitalized for Internal Bleeding, Diverticulitis

CBS News reporter Lara Logan was hospitalized Wednesday in New York City with internal bleeding and diverticulitis, a digestive condition.

A source told the New York Post that Logan’s condition may have been caused by stress, and she is likely to be in the hospital for several days.

Logan is a well-known war correspondent who has been working full time for “60 Minutes” since 2012.

“We wish Lara a very speedy recovery,” a CBS spokesperson told the Post, but didn’t give any further details on her condition.

The news of Logan’s health problems followed closely on the heels of the death of “60 Minutes” journalist Bob Simon on Feb. 11. He was killed in a cab accident.

Logan has covered the news from the front lines of war-torn countries for years. She was sexually assaulted and beaten by a mob in 2011 in Cairo, an incident that spiked conversations in the media and online about what constitutes rape. At the time, Logan told The New York Times that “they raped me with their hands.”

Logan has also been back in the news as the fate of NBC’s Brian Williams is being debated. She took a six-month leave of absence in 2013 after it was revealed a report she did on Benghazi events was based on an unreliable interview with a man who turned out not to have been an eyewitness to the event.

“The CBS internal review found that Logan's story 'was deficient in several respects,'" Media Matters said. Many have commented online that Williams should be allowed to return to work because Logan was.

If Lara Logan keeps her job, Williams should be fine. At least his story was inspired by true events.
