A New Jersey high school teacher has been suspended for altering pro-Trump yearbook photos.
Yearbook photos of two students were reportedly altered to remove President Donald Trump's name on their clothing. A Trump quote submitted by a student also wasn't included under the student's photo, New Jersey News 12 reported.
Wall Township School Superintendent Cheryl Dyer didn't name the teacher, who is adviser of a school yearbook class at Wall Township High School, but said the district is investigating the incident, according to the station.
Joseph Berardo Jr., the father of one of the students whose photo was altered, wants the district to republish the yearbooks with unaltered photos, The Associated Press reported.
"It was Photoshopped," Grant Berardo, a junior at the school, said of his photo wearing a "Make America Great Again" T-shirt, according to the Asbury Park Press. "I sent it to my mom and dad, just like ‘You won’t believe this.’ I was just overall disappointed."
School board President Allison Connolly issued a statement saying the board "found the allegations of wrongdoing disturbing and take the charge that students have had their free speech rights infringed upon very seriously," the newspaper noted.
"I don’t think there was a deep-seated plot here, but I think there’s a yearbook committee and a yearbook adviser, and somewhere in the mix someone or several people decided to censor three students," Joseph Berardo told the New York Post. "The fact that the committee found it OK to censor the president’s name or anything that wasn’t offensive is just wrong."
