A Chiloquin, Oregon, home reported stolen Tuesday has been found about a half mile from its original location, but the question of who moved it is nearly as unanswered as who owns the small home.
KOBI News 5 said the home, valued at around $3,000, was reported missing Tuesday, but some people near Chiloquin saw the broadcast and knew right where the cabin was parked.
"I just remembered the house from the photo. It's like, I know that place!" an unidentified neighbor told News 5. "It's been next door to me for almost a year."
It’s unclear when the home was moved, although based on what the neighbor said it could have been some time ago. Klamath County Sheriff Frank Skrah told News 5, "This is a situation where three parties are claiming ownership; one of the three parties sold it to a fourth party."
Skrah had originally announced the news of the missing house in a news conference Tuesday. “We had a complete home stolen,” News 5 reported he said at the time. “This isn't a motor home, this isn't a mobile home and this is a 'home.'"
The cabin was not on wheels, and had been on a foundation.
“We’ve identified potential suspects,”
Skrah told The Washington Post Thursday after the house was found. “We think that somebody busted out the foundation, jacked it up, put a lowboy [trailer] underneath it and lowered it down on the lowboy and took it.
“I’ll tell you, we were sitting around ... myself with 40 years of experience ... but we have never heard of anything like this,” he added. “It’s crazy. Who steals an entire house?”
The news of an entire house just vanishing — or going “poof” as The Washington Post said — created quite an Internet stir.
