Some residents at one of West Palm Beach, Florida's most iconic high-rises are pushing to strip the building of Donald Trump's moniker, and the anonymous group has distributed a petition to all condo occupants encouraging them to sign, Gossip Extra reported.

The petition, which urges the board to approve a referendum, asks for signatures to change the name of Trump Plaza to The Plaza, “which was initially the intent of the developer [in the mid-1980s]," the petition reads.

It's not clear whether Trump's recent stance against Muslims entering the U.S. has anything to do with the push to remove his name from the twin towers, where the letters have stood some five feet high since he purchased the property more than 20 years ago.

Abe Bernstein, condo association president of Trump Plaza of the Palm Beaches, said it's the first he's heard about a possible name change.

“The name of a building is an important thing when it comes to history and desirability," he told Gossip Extra. "But there are other important things, like the five-year beautification project we’re doing. A name doesn’t make a building but it helps.”

Alex Dreyfoos, philanthropist patron-of-the-arts and one of the building's most well-known residents, doesn't think Trump would allow for a name change.

“Knowing how smart Donald Trump is, I’m pretty sure there is something in the bylaws of the association that makes it impossible to strip the name,” he told Gossip Extra. “But even if it were a possibility, it’s too early to take that action . . . Donald is playing an interesting game. He tells some people what they want to hear, but if you really listen to him, he is quite reasonable.”

This isn’t the first time Trump's brand name has been a point of contention. Last week, a Dubai real estate firm reportedly removed the GOP presidential front-runner's name from a $6 billion golf complex it is building with him. But the removal, which was apparently in response to Trump's Muslim ban plan, was brief, and the name "Trump International Golf Club" was back in place two days later.
