An Army drone that was lost during a southern Arizona training flight was found stuck in a tree in Colorado.

The Colorado Springs Gazette reported that a hiker found the RQ-7 Shadow drone in foothills west of Denver.

Soldiers at the fort could not find the drone after losing contact with it on Jan. 31.

Officials said the drone was capable of flying for eight or nine hours. However, the Colorado site where it was found is 900 miles away, more than 10 times beyond the drone's range, according to the Gazette.

The unarmed drone was found missing one wing. It weighs 450 pounds, CBS Denver reports.

The drone has a wingspan of 14 feet and is powered by a 38-horsepower motor, the Gazette reported.

The jet stream could have contributed to the drone's loss. Jan. 31 weather data showed strong, warm winds, which can sweep up high-flying drones and send them gliding for long distances, according to the Gazette.

"An investigation into what happened is the next step," Fort Huachuca spokeswoman Tanja Linton said, the Gazette reports.
