The African-American sheriff of Milwaukee County, Wisconsin says U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder is conducting a "witch hunt" in Ferguson, Missouri to save face in the Michael Brown case.
Holder on Wednesday announced that there is no evidence that white Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson did anything illegal when he fatally shot unarmed black teenager Michael Brown, whom Wilson said was charging him. But Holder said a separate civil rights investigation into the Ferguson Police Department found systemic racism and that blacks were targeted in an effort to collect money through fines.
Sheriff David Clarke, appearing Wednesday on Fox News Channel's
"Your World with Neil Cavuto," said Holder's statement was part of a pattern of "inflammatory rhetoric" he has made before. Holder has had Ferguson in his crosshairs ever since the shooting occurred, he said.
"He did not have an open mind. He had a pre-determined mindset going into this investigation," Clarke told Cavuto. "I think that Eric Holder has an animosity, a genuine hostility toward local law enforcement, specifically white police officers."
Clarke said Holder thinks every white police officer is a "stone-cold racist."
The sheriff disputed Holder's data from his report, saying he has seen the same data and that there is no evidence that a majority of police officers act with racial bias.
"Now, he pointed to some traffic data, some data points there, and he cherry-picked a couple of emails about some very disgusting off-color remarks and email exchanges with some officers," Clarke said. "But you don't throw the baby out with the bathwater."
Clarke said Holder's tenure will be remembered as "very divisive, very destructive" because Holder has no faith in the American police officer at the local level. He said the Senate should quickly confirm U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch as his replacement so the nation can move forward.
