Obama Campaign Misspells 'Israel' on Invitations

By    |   Sunday, 15 July 2012 10:29 AM EDT

The Obama campaign made an embarrassing spelling error on an invitation to an event at a synagogue featuring Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz, The Blaze website reported.

Wasserman Schultz is slated to appear on behalf of the Obama campaign Monday at a Philadelphia-area synagogue but the invitation for the event spells the Congregation Keneseth Israel wrong. It appears instead as “Congregation Keneseth Isreal,” according to The Blaze.

In May, President Barack Obama told rabbis that he “probably knows more about Judaism than any other president.”

Obama has yet to pay a visit to America’s crucial Middle East ally during his term in office. His Republican opponent Mitt Romney is scheduled to visit Israel later this month.

Wasserman Schultz, a lightning rod for criticism from conservative Republicans, is considering taking on the GOP’s incumbent Rick Scott in 2014.

The event seems to conflict with an Internal Revenue Service rule prohibiting nonprofit organizations, including religious institutions, from “directly or indirectly participating in, or intervening in, any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for elective public office,” the Blaze reported.
