Author Pavlich: Fast and Furious Worse Than Watergate, Iran-Contra

The Fast and Furious gunrunning scandal is far worse for President Barack Obama than the Watergate and Iran-Contra scandals that beset Presidents Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan, respectively, author and journalist Katie Pavlich tells Newsmax.TV in an exclusive interview.

Pavlich, author of “Fast and Furious: Barack’s Obama’s Bloodiest Scandal and its Shameless Cover-Up,” said compared to Watergate and Iran-Contra, “This is far worse.”

“The president and ATF and DOJ, they claim that this was an effort to track these guns, that they were going to trace these guns into Mexico to bring down the big fish, but those claims are just another part of the coverup,” she said. “There were never any plans or efforts to trace the 2,500 guns they put into the hands of the cartels.

“Out of 2,500 guns, AK-47s, .50-caliber rifles, there were two tracking devices — two of them, one of which was homemade — put into these guns with 40-hour battery lives. There was no serious effort to actually trace these guns. The problem here is that this was an effort to show that guns in America from mom-and-pop gun dealers were fueling the Mexican drug war so they can turn right around and say, ‘Look at all this violence in Mexico. It’s coming from these gun shops in America. Of course we have to regulate them.’ ”

The inspiration for the book was Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry and Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agent Jaime Zapata, who were shot and killed by Mexican drug cartel members armed with AK-47 rifles linked to the ATF gun-smuggling operation. Pavlich said that the family members of the two agents have not been treated well by the Obama administration.

“Brian Terry’s family still has no answers about the details of what happened that night; they don’t have what would be the equivalent to a police report,” she said. “Same goes for Jamie Zapata and ever since their son has been killed, they’ve had to find out most of their information from the handful of very few media sources that have been reporting on Fast and Furious.”

Such treatment is not normal, Pavlich asserted, noting police and FBI reports are generally produced and provided quickly, especially when the victim is a federal agent.

“That’s the worst part here,” she said. “In Fast and Furious, Brian Terry was a man who dedicated his life to law enforcement, his entire family dedicated their lives to law enforcement, yet, they can’t get any of the answers from their own government about what happened to him.”

In her book, Pavlich maintains Fast and Furious was a coordinated and planned effort to arm thugs south of the border for political gain.

“President Obama, [Attorney General] Eric Holder and [Secretary of State] Hillary Clinton were all pushing this 90 percent figure; that 90 percent of guns in Mexico come from the United States,” she said. “Well, it turns out that’s not true. Wikileaks cable proves that’s not true. They get their guns from Central America, cheaper sources like China. That’s just not true.

“They were pushing this 90 percent figure so they could say, ‘Look, all these guns in Mexico, they’re fueling the drug violence down there, are coming from American gun shops. We need more regulation.’ Barack Obama campaigned on bringing back the assault rifle ban.

"As soon as Eric Holder was in office, he said that that was still a top priority and still to this day says that’s a top priority of the administration and so, because their false statistic was proven a lie, they then had to create it. They had to create this false narrative so they flooded Mexico with these guns and then turned right around and blamed the same gun shops who they were forcing to sell and asking to sell to these straw purchasers for the violence in order to push these new regulations.”
