Trump: Obama Pretended to Be Kenyan to Claim College Aid

Businessman Donald Trump has made a new birther claim about President Barack Obama, alleging that he pretended to be Kenyan to receive financial aid in college.

He told a National Press Club luncheon in Washington this week that he has no regrets, "not even a little bit," that he publicly demanded Obama produce his long-form birth certificate, the Daily Mail reported. The president did eventually show his birth certificate.

Now Trump, who has hinted that he may seek the GOP presidential nomination in 2016, has come up with three possible scenarios to explain Obama’s past.

"Either it’s fine, or he was born in Kenya, or in my opinion there’s a very good chance he was born here, and said he was born in Kenya," Trump said, according to the Daily Mail. "Because if you were born in Kenya, you got into colleges, and you got aid. Very simple."

Trump’s suspicions over Obama’s birthplace stem from a typo in a book agency's 1991 biography of Barack Obama, which listed Obama as being born in Kenya. After the biography surfaced in 2012, a former editor at the company said it was "a fact checking error."

In the run-up to the 2012 election, Trump offered to donate $50 million to charity in exchange for the president turning over birth certificate, passport and college records. But the president never complied with the latter two.

"I never heard from him," Trump said during the luncheon, noting that he would have been willing to show his personal records if he’d been offered a huge sum to give to charity.

Trump, a real estate and entertainment magnate, revealed that he’s still mulling over whether to join the Republican race for the White House, while warning potential rivals that he could be a late entrant into the fray.

"We’re going to see what happens in ‘16," said Trump, star of NBC’s reality show "The Apprentice." "If I don’t see the right person, I will do something in ’16. I will do it sure as you’re sitting here."
