Former Vice President Al Gore does not live up to his own energy-conscious standards, using more electricity in his home last year than an average American family uses in 21 years, according to a new report.

According to a National Center for Public Policy Research report, Gore's home, though outfitted with $30,000 in solar panels as well as geothermal heating, used an average 19,241 kilowatt hours each month in 2016, compared with the U.S. household average of 901 kilowatt hours per month.

Senior fellow at the conservative research center, Drew Johnson, chided Gore, an Academy Award winner for his 2007 global warming film "An Inconvenient Truth," for not facing his own "inconvenient reality."

"Upon winning the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize, Gore stated, 'The only way to solve this [environmental] crisis is for individuals to make changes in their own lives,'" Johnson wrote.

"Judging by his own home electricity consumption, Gore is failing to live up to the standards he expects of everyone else."

According to Johnson, findings of electric usage at Gore's 10,070 square foot home in the Belle Meade section of Nashville included:

  • Gore's home uses more electricity in a year than the average American family uses in 21 years.
  • In September 2016, the home used 30,993 kilowatt hours, as much energy as the typical American family uses in 34 months.
  • Gore's heated swimming pool used enough energy in 2016 to power six average U.S. households for a year.
  • Gore's electric bill was nearly $22,000 from August 2016 to July 2017.

"Al Gore is happy to talk the talk, but has proven completely unwilling to walk the walk when it comes to living a green lifestyle – and that should make every person question the messenger as well as the message," Johnson wrote in a piece on his findings in The Daily Caller.
