Retailers in the Chicago area are getting pressure from gun-control groups to block owners with concealed-carry permits from carrying weapons inside their businesses.

The groups are pushing the retailers to post signs saying that their establishments are gun-free zones, The Chicago Tribune reports.

"For two years, we've waited and hoped stores would act responsibly — and very, very few of them have on their own," Lee Goodman, a  protestor encouraging the signs, told the Tribune. "It seems to be that many stores think of it as a way of not taking a stand they see as political, which might alienate some of their customers."

Goodman has joined groups picketing outside certain retailers in hopes of pressuring owners into cooperating.

The report identifies the two organizations pushing the effort are Peaceful Communities in Northbrook and the Joint Action Committee for Political Affairs in Highland Park.

The effort has had "some success," the Tribune reports, but "many stores have resisted the campaign."
