Obama Meets Jerry Springer

By    |   Tuesday, 17 July 2012 09:17 AM EDT

President Barack Obama met with talk show host Jerry Springer at a fundraiser in Ohio yesterday as he swept into the state on a one-day visit, Fox News reported.

The president met with Springer at a closed-door fundraiser with a group of supporters ahead of an event at the Cincinnati Music Hall ballroom.

Springer told reporters after the fundraiser that Obama is "so competent and so smart, I just don't see why we wouldn't want him for four more years as president."

The syndicated talk show host is well-versed in politics, serving as a political campaign adviser to Robert F. Kennedy and as a one-term Democratic mayor of Cincinnati in 1977 at the age of 33. He appears at some Democratic events and earlier this year got into a testy exchange with Fox News talk show host Gretchen Wilson about the network’s treatment of Obama.

Obama, during his appearance at a town hall-style event at the ballroom, joked with a local barber who asked if he could cut the president’s hair.

"Well, first of all, let me answer the second question first . . . You would not want a president who is disloyal to his barber," Obama said with a smile. "I mean, a man and his barber, that's a strong connection. So I am not going to let you cut my hair because my barber would be hurt."
