Poll: Voters Divided on 20-Week Abortion Ban

By    |   Thursday, 18 July 2013 01:44 PM EDT

American voters are divided over laws that would ban abortion after 20 weeks, with almost as many supporting the measures as opposing them, a new poll has found.

According to a Rasmussen Reports survey of 1,000 likely voters, 44 percent of respondents favor a ban on abortion after 20 weeks compared to 41 percent who oppose such a ban.

Another 15 percent of those questioned in the July 16-17 survey were undecided.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry signed a bill into law on Thursday banning abortion after 20 weeks and several other states are considering similar measures.

In June, the House passed a 20-week abortion ban, and Florida GOP Sen. Marco Rubio is expected to introduce a similar measure in the Senate.
