Some 56 percent of American Catholics disapprove of President Donald Trump's performance in the White House, a new Pew Research Center poll has found.
Only 38 percent of Catholics approve of the commander in chief's past five months in the White House, according to the survey which quizzed 2,504 adults from June 8-18.
Just days earlier, Bishop Marcelo Sanchez Sorondo, a top Vatican official, blasted reports that Trump was exiting the Paris accord on combating climate change as "a disaster for everyone."
Trump did slightly better among white non-Hispanic Catholics, with 52 percent approving of his time on the job and 42 percent disapproving.
The Pew poll also reveals 74 percent of white evangelical Protestants approve of Trump's performance. Only 20 percent say they do not.
