New Poll Shows Low Public Confidence in Public Schools

Tuesday, 14 August 2012 10:42 AM EDT

A new Rasmussen poll shows low American confidence in public schools, with less than a quarter of Americans believing the public education system is good.

The poll shows, however, that Americans give higher marks to the school their own child attends, with 63 percent rating their child’s school as good or excellent.

The telephone survey found that just 23 percent of American adults rate the current performance of public schools in America today as good or excellent and 36 percent give public education in the United States poor marks.

The percentage of Americans who don’t believe current high school graduates have the skills needed to enter college or get a job stands at 54 percent. The survey of 1,000 adults was conducted on August 9-10.
