Secretary Steven Mnuchin's request to use a government jet for his European honeymoon earlier this summer raised eyebrows and led to an internal review, according to a new report.

ABC News 6 reported that following Mnuchin's June 24 marriage to Louise Linton, the couple honeymooned in Scotland, France, and Italy. Mnuchin had requested the use of a military jet for the trip, but that request was denied.

Still, the Office of Inspector General at the Treasury Department looked into the matter. ABC claimed an Air Force jet could cost somewhere around $25,000 per hour to operate.

A Treasury Department spokesman told ABC, "The Secretary is a member of the National Security Council and has responsibility for the Office of Terrorism and Financial Intelligence. It is imperative that he have access to secure communications, and it is our practice to consider a wide range of options to ensure he has these capabilities during his travel, including the possible use of military aircraft."

Mnuchin and his wife also came under fire last month after they were seen watching the Solar Eclipse atop Fort Knox. That criticism was grew more intense after Mnuchin's wife posted a photo of the couple on Instagram walking off a government plane and mentioned all the luxury items she was wearing.

The Treasury Department is reviewing the Fort Knox trip as well, ABC reported.
