The tens of thousands of children kept in holding areas by an overburdened Border Patrol are the result of unchecked amnesty, says Sen. Ted Cruz.
"It's a crisis of the president's own creation," Cruz said Wednesday on Fox News Channel's
"The Kelly File." "We are seeing tens of thousands of little boys and little girls coming across in the custody of violent, hardened drug dealers because of President [Barack] Obama's lawlessness."
Cruz was referring to Obama's executive order in 2012 that granted amnesty to 800,000 illegal immigrants who had entered the United States as children. Republicans blame the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program for encouraging Central American parents to send their unaccompanied children through Mexico and into the United States.
"This is the face of amnesty. This is what it looks like: tens of thousands of children being victimized," Cruz said. "This is why amnesty doesn't work."
