CBS has fired a top legal executive at CBS who said on social media that she "is not even sympathetic" for the victims of the massacre in Las Vegas Sunday night, because "country music fans often are Republican," Fox News reported on Monday.

The Daily Caller originally reported that Hayley Geftman-Gold, who was the network's vice president and senior counsel, wrote on Facebook:

"If they wouldn't do anything when children were murdered, I have no hope that Repugs will ever do the right thing," apparently referring to the Sandy Hook Elementary School killings in Newtown, Connecticut in 2012 in which 20 children and six adults at the school were shot dead. "I'm actually not even sympathetic bc country music fans often are Republican gun toters."

The original thread was deleted, but apparently not by Geftman-Gold.

CBS issued a statement saying, "This individual, who was with us for approximately one year, violated the standards of our company and is no longer an employee of CBS. Her views as expressed on social media are deeply unacceptable to all of us at CBS. Our hearts go out to the victims in Las Vegas and their families."

The Daily Caller pointed out that this was not the first time that derogatory statements towards Republicans were made in the aftermath of a tragedy.

In June, shortly after the shooting attack on the GOP congressional baseball team in which Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise was critically injured, former CBS anchor Scott Pelley questioned whether the shooting was "foreseeable, predictable and to some degree, self-inflicted."
