Sen. Ted Cruz says Alabama GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore should face criminal prosecution if the multiple allegations of sexual misconduct with teenage girls are true.

The Texas Republican, in remarks to the Texas Tribune, joins other GOP senators withdrawing support for Moore.

But they also go further, asserting the allegations warrant criminal prosecution and render him “unfit to serve” in the Senate, The Daily Caller reported.

“As it stands, I can’t urge the people of Alabama to support a campaign in the face of these charges without serious, persuasive demonstration that the charges are not true,” Cruz told the Texas Tribune.

“Both last week and this week, there are serious charges of criminal conduct that if true, not only make him unfit to serve in the Senate but merit criminal prosecution.”

Cruz endorsed Moore in October.

Moore has denied all allegations.
