John Sununu, a former governor of New Hampshire, offered praise for President Donald Trump and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott for their handling of Hurricane Harvey, saying, "They're doing this exactly the right way."
The former governor said Trump took action quickly.
"I think they've done very well. I think the president and his team deserve a lot of credit for the early declaration of a disaster, even before the storm hit," Sununu said Monday on Fox News' "America's Newsroom," according to The Daily Caller.
"That allowed them to preposition and put assets in place and begin cooperating with state and local officials, and they did that without any hesitation," Sununu added.
"Certainly, Gov. Abbott and his team deserve credit for the way they've been working with the local officials and calling out the National Guard," the former governor said.
Sununu also gave credit to Trump for not visiting the area yet. "The president has resisted the temptation to go down there too soon. I actually think that presidents can show up too soon and actually hinder the rescue activities."
"So far everybody involved in this really disastrous situation, this human tragedy of what is happening there, deserve, at least, in-progress good grades," Sununu said.
"America's Newsroom" posted a quote from Sununu's interview, in which he credited people helping each other during the storm.
Abbott also appeared on "America's Newsroom" Monday, saying that there was "no time" to second-guess local officials' actions amid the storm.
