The spire of New York City's One World Trade Center was illuminated in red, white, and blue light Tuesday night to honor the eight confirmed victims of a terror attack just blocks from the 9/11 memorial.
A statement from Gov. Andrew Cuomo's office said the tribute was at the Democratic governor's order.
"Governor Cuomo also directed that the One World Trade Center to be lit in red, white, and blue in honor of freedom and democracy," the statement reads.
Eight people were killed and several others were injured when a truck plowed into a group of pedestrians on a bike path in lower Manhattan. A suspect — shot and wounded by police after the attack and identified by news reports as 29-year-old Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov – was detained.
In a statement, President Trump said the federal government would "provide its full support to the New York Police Department, including through a joint investigation" with the FBI after the attack, The Hill reported.
The last time the tower was lit was August, The Hill reported, when the colors of the Spanish flag were displayed in lights after a terrorist attack in Barcelona that left 13 dead.
