To Hillary Clinton and the rest of the denizens of the left, freedom of speech — as guaranteed by the First Amendment to the Constitution — means you are free to say whatever the government orders you to say.
I sense skepticism among my readers. But this is true. Michael Brown points out that in 2015 Clinton made a speech to the Women in the World Summit where she stated flatly that, “deep-seated cultural codes, religious beliefs, and structural biases have to be changed.”
California gives a hint as to what is in store for the rest of the nation. The “California Reproductive Freedom, Accountability, Comprehensive Care, and Transparency Act” is another thinly veiled attempt by Planned Parenthood and other abortion cheerleaders to trample on Christian belief. This law requires Christian pro–life pregnancy counseling offices to violate fundamental, bedrock Christian belief and make referrals to an abortion killing center. In effect this means if a conflicted and troubled pregnant woman comes to the center for Christian counseling, in addition to giving advice on raising the child herself or putting it up for adoption center employees are ordered by the state to also suggest the woman visit an abortionist.
This law would be an outrage even if it was reciprocal and Planned Parenthood “clinics” were required to refer women to Christian pro–life centers. But of course the law doesn’t require that. In Brown’s summary only pro–life centers “invariably run by conservative Christians, are being forced to violate their sacredly held beliefs.”
It would be understandable if you concluded that well that’s California for you. That law will never stand up in court. Understandable, but wrong. The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the law that stripped First Amendment protection from believers.
As tempting as it is for the plaintiffs to appeal that literally ungodly ruling to the Supreme Court, that is a dangerous course. Currently there are only two possible outcomes with this Supreme Court. The current composition of the court — four liberal hacks vs. two conservatives and two weather vanes — means that a tie, which doesn’t establish a precedent, still allows the California ruling to remain in effect, is the best possible outcome, but that is no victory at all.
The worst, and most likely, is that one of the weather vanes will join the four leftists and establish a nationwide precedent that makes Christian freedom of speech contingent on the wishes of Planned Parenthood and abortion cheerleaders in state legislatures.
