Progressives and the media — as well as a handful of conservatives — are part of a concerted "lynch mob" intent on taking down President Donald Trump, Bill O'Reilly wrote in a column for The Hill.
There is very little fact-finding happening in the reporting of the media anymore; just a collection of carefully selected details to fit the proper narrative — Trump is either guilty of something or unfit to be president, O'Reilly writes.
Trump "is so despised by the progressive movement, and by some conservatives as well, that old rules of fairness and truth-seeking no longer apply," O'Reilly wrote. "It is obviously wrong for the press to insinuate and then promote conclusions based upon biased conjecture, but in some media precincts, the 'get Trump' end justifies the means.
"It is very possible that the White House does not fully understand the powerful forces arrayed against it," O'Reilly warns.
O'Reilly lifts up former White House chief of staff Reince Priebus, who, despite getting fired by Trump, left with his integrity in tact. It would have been easy for Priebus to jump on the anti-Trump bandwagon, but instead called it like he saw it — the press is dishonest.
"By the way, that's what seeking the truth is all about, providing some honest perspective even if you don't like someone," O'Reilly wrote.
But there are also some fingerprints of conservatives in this takedown, too, O'Reilly says.
"A good number of conservatives are participating in the lynch mob. If you think there wasn't a dose of personal animus in John McCain's vote to keep Obamacare intact, you're living in the Land of Oz. Sen. McCain despises Donald Trump, perhaps with justification, and fully understands how his vote has damaged the president," O'Reilly wrote.
