An expert in cybersecurity who was asked to look at stolen Hillary Clinton emails has spoken with special counsel Robert Mueller as part of the Department of Justice's Russia probe.
Business Insider reported that Matt Tait — who at one time worked as an information security specialist for the British government — was interviewed by Mueller's team.
Tait wrote a blog post in June that detailed how he was recruited to help vet hacked emails from the Clinton email server by Peter Smith, a GOP operative who was trying to find the 33,000 emails that Clinton said she deleted.
Tait never ended up working with Smith on the project, but he was asked about what he knows as the DOJ tries to ascertain whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia.
According to Business Insider, Mueller's team is digging for more information about the relationship between Smith, who committed suicide at age 80 earlier this year, and former national security adviser Michael Flynn, who is another target of Mueller's probe.
CNN noted that the House Intelligence Committee has also interviewed Tait during the course of its own Russia investigation.
