New York Gov. Kathy Hochul urged senators to reject Republicans' massive tax and spending bill, saying it would be "detrimental" to her state.
"If enacted, the proposed bill would gut New York's healthcare system, strip families of crucial nutrition benefits, trigger billions in economic losses through the removal of clean energy tax credits, stagnate growth in education and critical technology sectors, and continue to unfairly tax hard-working New Yorkers by failing to fully repeal the SALT cap," Hochul said in a letter to Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
"Passage of this legislation would worsen the affordability crisis and inject further instability into an already fragile economy," she added.
Hochul said New York would lose $13.5 billion in funding for Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act marketplace. The reduction in funding for SNAP benefits would mean $2.1 billion in losses for New York residents who need help paying for food, she said.
The "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" passed the House by one vote last month.
