By    |   Tuesday, 04 October 2022 11:21 AM EDT

A full 68% of likely voters say books containing explicit descriptions of sex acts should not be present in public high school libraries, according to a new poll by Rasmussen Reports and the Capitol Resource Institute.

The survey, released Monday, covered many parents' concerns:

  • 79% say sexually explicit books should not be available in public middle school libraries.
  • 85% say the books should not be available in public elementary school libraries.
  • 77% say they are concerned that school-age children are being exposed to sexual material that is not age appropriate.
  • 89% of likely voters say they believe it is important that public schools fully inform parents about what is being taught to their children.
  • 64% of parents say they are at least somewhat concerned that public school libraries contain sexual material that is age-inappropriate for children.
  • 56% of parents say they are opposed to public schools teaching kids about transsexualism.

The survey, conducted Sept. 20-21, polled 1,000 U.S. likely voters. The margin of error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.
