House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., is speaking out and revealing for the first time the details of his gunshot wounds and just how seriously injured he really was.
His comments come in a "60 Minutes" interview scheduled for Sunday.
"I found out later just how much damage was done internally," he said. "You know, I mean, my femur was shattered. The hip and pelvis had serious damage where the bullet went through and, you know, did some damage to areas that had to be shored up with steel plates and then they did a phenomenal job of rebuilding, you know, kind of the rebuilding Humpty Dumpty.
"I mean, there were, there was a lot of damage inside that had to get fixed."
And he added: "They put me back together again."
It is Scalise's first interview since he was shot in June while practicing with other Republican lawmakers for a charity baseball game.
He returned to Capitol Hill later Thursday.
