The Republican tax plan was written to "punish" left-leaning states who voted for Democrat Hillary Clinton in the presidential election last year, political commentator Michael Reagan told Newsmax TV.
During an appearance on "Newsmax Now," Reagan told host Bill Tucker he does not like the plan.
"If I was a member of Congress, I'd vote against the one that's on the table," Reagan said of the tax plan that has been proposed by Republicans.
"Blue states. Who did they vote for? They voted for Hillary Clinton, and they're going to be punished for voting for Hillary Clinton," Reagan said.
Reagan, the son of former President Ronald Reagan and the author of "Lessons My Father Taught Me," then referenced the fact the tax proposal drops the state and local tax deduction, which is particularly popular in states with high local taxes.
"I mean some people like . . . my daughter and my son, it's the only tax write-off they have," he said. "If you're going to take that away from them, you're really going to hurt these people in these states.
"The fact that for years this has been something we can write off and it saves us some money, but that's going to increase our taxes insurmountable and just a wrong way to go. And then to cap your loans on your homes at $500,000 of what you could write off. Both those issues are just punishment to blue states and a big yippee yi yo kayah to the reds."

Reagan said lawmakers could put together and pass a flat tax proposal, but instead they want to tax the rich at high rates.
"Oh, let's go out and really hit the rich people," Reagan said, mimicking what he thinks politicians are saying. "Let's not let them write off their homes. Let's not let them write off what they pay in state income tax and what have you, and let's really do something like that, and they're going to get punished for it."
