Romney: Cardinal Dolan to Offer Convention Prayer

Wednesday, 22 August 2012 06:02 PM EDT

Cardinal Timothy Dolan will give the benediction at the Republican National Convention the night Mitt Romney accepts the presidential nomination.

Romney announced the news in an interview with "The World Over Live" show on the EWTN Catholic network.

Dolan leads the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York. He's also president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.

The archdiocese is one of more than 40 Catholic groups around the country suing President Barack Obama over his mandate that employers provide health insurance that covers birth control. The Obama administration says the coverage is an important preventive health service for women.

The EWTN interview with Romney will air at 8 p.m. EDT on Thursday. The GOP convention is scheduled to start Monday in Tampa, Fla.
