Sarah Palin's Father Says He's 'Horribly Harassed' by IRS

Sarah Palin's father, Chuck Heath Sr., has been "horribly harassed" by the IRS six times since Palin became the Republican vice presidential nominee in 2008, her brother has said.

Chuck Heath Jr. said in a Facebook post that his father had never heard from the IRS before 2008, and implied that his father's experience was evidence of the IRS' targeting of conservative groups, adding, "Coincidence? You decide."

"My father, who worked multiple jobs and faithfully and honestly paid his taxes for 50 years, had never heard a word from the IRS. In 2008, his daughter was tapped to run for vice president of the United States. Since that time, he has been, in his words, 'horribly harassed' six times by the agency. They've tried to dig up something on him, but he's always operated above board," Heath wrote.

"Government and politics are ugly. Kudos to the few that are trying to clean it up."

Heath Jr.'s comments prompted streams of anti-Obama comments, to which he responded, "Thank you guys for the support. I know Dad appreciates it."

"I wasn't going to say anything about the IRS targeting him when he told me about it a few months ago. I guess I feared some kind of retaliation from them. But when I heard the person heading up the IRS investigation for their targeting of tea party groups was a major Obama donor, I felt compelled to say something."

The Obama administration has been under fire since May 2013, after it was discovered the IRS had been targeting conservative groups for heightened scrutiny. Reports indicated that organizations seeking tax-exempt status that also had "tea party" or "patriot" in their names were subject to lengthy questioning and delays in approvals while applications by progressive groups went forward.

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee has for months been leading the congressional investigations into the scandal. The GOP this week blasted the Obama administration  after the Wall Street Journal reported Monday that the FBI and Justice Department will probably not seek criminal charges against anyone involved in the controversy.

Sources told the newspaper that the criminal probe had not found enough evidence of political bias to prove that a violation of the law had occurred.

Obama campaign donor Barbara Bosserman was chosen by the administration to head the investigation into the targeting. She has donated thousands of dollars to the Democratic National Committee and to Obama's presidential campaigns.
