Texas Gov. Rick Perry plans a $1 million television ad campaign targeting New York and Connecticut businesses as he promotes the Lone Star State’s economy, said Lucy Nashed, a spokeswoman.
Perry will visit New York City starting June 16 as part of his effort to lure businesses, Nashed said in an e-mail to Bloomberg News. He also plans a stop in Connecticut during the four-day trip, the Texas Tribune first reported.

Perry's message is not new. He has taken it to other states. The Tribune reported that it boils down to "Texas wants you — namely your jobs and investment capital."

"The governor’s job-recruitment trips are doing exactly what we intended — getting the word out about the low taxes, smart regulations, fair legal system and skilled workforce that have made Texas a beacon for employers," Nashed told the Tribune.
"We have a formula in Texas that has made us the best state in the nation to live, work, raise a family and run a business — and it’s a formula other states and our federal government would do well to replicate."
The 30-second ads will feature Texans from a variety of professions — from filmmakers to doctors — extolling the virtues of the state’s economy. They will run for a week on CNBC, Fox News, CNN, ESPN, and the Discovery Channel.
Perry is especially interested in luring gun manufacturers, CNN reports. Shortly after Connecticut passed a package of stricter gun laws in April, PTR Industries of Bristol, Conn., said that it planned on leaving the state by the end of summer.
Colt Manufacturing, located in West Hartford, Conn., has also expressed concerns.
"Our first choice is to continue to work and build here," CEO Dennis Veilleux told CNN's Wayne Drash. "But our customers will not buy our products made and distributed from a state that doesn't respect their Second Amendment rights."
Connecticut’s new gun law adds more than 100 guns to the state's list of banned assault weapons and limits the sale or purchase of high-capacity magazines like those used in the Newtown school shooting in December that left 20 children and six adults dead, according to CNN. It also requires background checks for all gun purchases.
