Former Congressman Michael Grimm is considering running for his old seat, NY1 reported, quoting friends of the Staten Island Republican.
Grimm told NY1 he had not made a decision, though he said friends would like to see him make the move. He said he would like to return to politics one day.
His road back to Washington could be tough, since he would face incumbent Republican Dan Donovan and five Democratic challengers.
Grimm resigned from Congress in 2015 after admitting to tax evasion in a business he ran before entering politics. He served seven months in federal prison for the charges.
He also was known for threatening an NY1 reporter in the U.S. Capitol who reported Grimm had refused to answer questions about campaign contributions.
