Democrats would receive 15 percent more votes than Republicans in congressional polls if the elections were held today, according to a new Fox News Poll released Wednesday.

Fifty-percent of registered voters said they would vote for Democrats compared to just 35 percent who said they would vote for a Republican candidate.

The midterm elections will take place in the middle of President Donald Trump's term. All 435 seats in the House and 34 seats in the Senate will be contested, including 25 in the Senate which are held by Democrats.

The current U.S. Senate has 52 Republicans and 48 Democrats (which includes two Independents). The GOP also currently controls the House, with 239 seats.

Fifty-seven percent of the same voters polled by Fox said they do not feel hopeful of the country's direction compared to 41 percent who said they did.

The poll was conducted Oct. 22-24 among a random national sample of 1,005 registered voters.
