Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., was removed from congressional committees he served on, following news of his indictment for misusing campaign money.
House Speaker Paul Ryan said in a statement Hunter was temporarily ousted from the Committees on Transportation and Infrastructure, Armed Services, and Education and the Workforce, along with six subcommittees.
"The charges against Rep. Hunter are deeply serious," Ryan said. "The Ethics Committee deferred its investigation at the request of the Justice Department. Now that he has been indicted, Rep. Hunter will be removed from his committee assignments pending the resolution of this matter."
Hunter and his wife were indicted after being accused of conspiracy, wire fraud, falsification of records, and other charges. Officials said they spent more than $250,000 from Hunter's campaign account on things like family vacations, groceries, and other personal expenses.
