A co-founder of the company behind the controversial and unverified Trump dossier will testify before the House Intelligence Committee next week, The Hill reported Wednesday.
Fusion GPS previously said it would not honor a subpoena submitted by House Intelligence Committee chairman Devin Nunes, R-Calif., but Glenn Simpson changed course and hammered out a deal with committee leaders after appearing before a closed House Intelligence Committee hearing Wednesday.
“He will be able to maintain Fusion GPS’s privileges and honor its legal obligations,” Simpson’s lawyer Joshua Levy told reporters. “That’s important to the company, which to this point has maintained its confidential relationships with its clients.”
Fusion GPS hired a former British spy to compile a dossier on Trump during the election. The document identified Russian businessman and others whom U.S. intelligence analysts have concluded are Russian intelligence officers or working on behalf of the Russian government. It also contained inflammatory and salacious content about Trump, information that has not been verified.
The Washington Free Beacon originally hired Fusion GPS during the 2016 Republican primary to conduct research on Trump, but the dossier was subsequently funded by Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign and the Democratic National Committee.
