Gov. John Kasich said Sunday it's "a good thing" the Senate failed to pass a long-promised repeal-and-replace Obamacare bill.
In an interview with "Fox News Sunday," the Ohio Republican, however, predicted the GOP healthcare reform effort is far from over.
"I think it's a good thing," the Senate legislation failed early Friday, failing to win enough votes after three Republican senators voted "no."
Kasich said the GOP "looked over the cliff" and saw "people were going to be hurt and pulled back."
But he says the effort isn't dead yet — and at this point, "they should bring the Democrats" into the process.
"I don't think we're done with it yet. It's that simple," he said, adding: "Everything is not on the leaders. Stop asking leaders for permission."
"America is give and take, it's compromise without giving up your principles. We need a sense of unity and hopefulness," he said.
