The left-wing effort to prevent Republicans from passing legislation that would repeal Obamacare is on "full war footing," according to one liberal activist.
Politico reported on the push-back that involves Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and several activist groups as the GOP prepares to vote on a health bill — likely next week.
"The reality is that the progressive coalition has never been more unified or determined than they are right now," Jesse Lehrich, a spokesman for Organizing for Action, told Politico.
Liberal groups have joined forces in Washington, D.C., and around the country to try to persuade Republican lawmakers from voting for any bill that would repeal the current Obamacare law. Some are holding rallies near Capitol Hill, while others are running ads that target members of the GOP who might swing either way when it comes to the health vote.
The groups are also encouraging people to call Republican lawmakers' offices to ask them not to vote for the health bill put forth by Sens. Bill Cassidy, R-La., and Lindsey Graham, R-S.C.
"We're all fighting tooth-and-nail, hand-in-hand, to stymie this would-be catastrophe," Lehrich said.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., meanwhile, called the Cassidy-Graham bill "a stinkaroo" during a press conference Wednesday, according to the Washington Examiner.
