Michael Caputo, a former campaign adviser to President Donald Trump, said his legal expenses to defend himself in the Russia probe have been so great he's had to deplete his children's college fund to pay them, The Hill reported Saturday.
"It's very expensive and nobody's called me and offered to help," Caputo, who worked in Trump's campaign communications department, told The Washington Examiner.
"The problem is, it's very specialized representation, so it takes a certain type of attorney, and they're quite competent. And you'll pay for competency," he said.
Caputo maintained the Russia investigation into whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russians was politically motivated with the intent of "destroying" allies of the president.
Caputo reported he had hired a New York-based attorney and explained death threats he had received added to his financial burden.
"We've had to install security. I've had to take security precautions at both my home and at my office, and with my children, so these all add up very quickly," Caputo said.
