The five most major news organizations will not offer former White House press secretary Sean Spicer a position as an exclusive paid contributor, network sources have told NBC News.
Although representatives of the five news networks all declined to comment, as did Spicer, a media industry executive familiar with the talks Spicer held separately with CBS News, CNN, Fox News, ABC News and NBC News said, "The news organizations might use him on roundtables, but [a paid exclusive contributor job] is not happening."
Several network insiders told NBC that none of the networks were interested in hiring Spicer because of a "lack of credibility."
Someone familiar with his ongoing talks said that, in any case, Spicer may want more freedom to work for multiple outlets, and there are also discussions about a non-scripted reality show.
Spicer, who announced in July he was leaving the White House, already has a role as a visiting fellow at Harvard Kennedy School and has signed with Worldwide Speakers Group for paid speaking engagements, whose website praises his ability to discuss "the people, philosophies and policies that matter most to the citizens of the U.S. and businesses around the world."
TMZ reported earlier this month that Spicer turned down an invitation to compete on ABC's "Dancing With the Stars," because he felt that his schedule at the time of the show's production would be too busy due to numerous commitments he would have during that period.
