Poll: 54 Percent Say NKorea Poses Most Immediate Threat

Fifty-four percent of Americans say the greatest immediate threat to the U.S. is North Korea, while 19 percent say it is ISIS, according to a new NBC News/Survey Monkey poll.

Here are the highlights from the poll:

  • 53 percent of Republicans say the most immediate threat comes from North Korea, while 27 percent it is ISIS.
  • 55 percent of Democrats say North Korea poses the greatest immediate threat, compared to 12 percent who say ISIS is the biggest risk.
  • 53 percent of independents say North Korea poses the most immediate threat, while 23 percent say ISIS does.
  • 64 percent of all those surveyed say the U.S. should mostly use diplomacy to deal with North Korea, while 32 percent favor military action.
  • 40 percent approve of President Donald Trump's handling of the situation with North Korea, while 56 percent disapprove.

The poll, conducted Oct. 13-17, surveyed 5,047 people. The margin of error is plus or minus 2 percentage points.
