NY Jets: 'Honor and a Privilege' to Stand With Players

By    |   Sunday, 24 September 2017 03:08 PM EDT

Acting New York Jets owner Chris Johnson – younger brother of America’s ambassador to the U.K. – called it “an honor and a privilege” to stand with players Sunday after President Donald Trump’s rebuke of players’ onfield protests.

“We are very proud of our players and their strong commitment to work in our community to make a positive, constructive, and unifying impact,” Johnson said in a statement.

The Jets also posted photos of Johnson and Jets players linking arms on the sidelines of Sunday’s game, The Hill reported.

Jets owner Woody Johnson was confirmed as U.S. ambassador to the United Kingdom in August; he’s a longtime Republican donor and contributed $1 million to Trump’s inaugural committee, The Hill reported.

Trump has faced a fierce blowback after calling on NFL owners to fire players who kneel during the national anthem.
