President Donald Trump's agreement with Democratic leaders on hurricane relief and to avert a government shutdown in 90 days has been met with approval from most of the public, according to a new poll from NBC News/The Wall Street Journal.
Although the public responded well to his bipartisan agreement, they were colder on his work on other issues.
Respondents were asked if they approve or disapprove of Trump's handling of:
- Deal with Democrats: 71 percent approve, 8 percent disapprove.
- Economy: 41 percent approve, 36 percent disapprove.
- Border security/immigration: 39 percent approve, 47 percent disapprove.
- North Korea: 36 percent approve, 43 percent disapprove.
- Changing Washington D.C.: 35 percent approve, 38 percent approve.
- Healthcare: 27 percent approve, 53 percent disapprove.
- Race relations: 25 percent approve, 52 percent disapprove.
- Pardoning Joe Arpaio: 25 percent approves, 42 percent disapprove.
- The environment: 24 percent approve, 50 percent disapprove.
- His Twitter use: 23 percent approve, 66 percent disapprove.
- Violence in Charlottesville, Virginia: 20 percent approve, 55 percent disapprove.
Only his work on the economy has more who approve than disapprove, and fewer than one-in-three support his pardoning former sheriff Joe Arpaio, his Twitter use, his response to the violence that erupted at the protest in Charlottesville, Virginia or his work on healthcare, race relations, the environment and climate change.
When asked about Trump's accomplishments so far, 33 percent think he's done a "great deal" or "a fair amount," while 66 percent think he's done "only some" or "very little." Among Trump voters, 34 percent said he's done a "great deal."
