House Majority Whip Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., on Thursday called on Congress to "lower taxes for everybody" to help "rebuild the middle class" and bring back jobs to the United States.
In remarks to Fox News' "Your World" with Neil Cavuto, Scalise said getting tax cuts passed by the end of the year is "doable."
"This is the time to get things done and the biggest things we can get done, to lower taxes for everybody, to make our country competitive again, to rebuild the middle class," he said. "Look at what has happened over the last 10 years. We've seen jobs move overseas. We can reverse that quickly through tax reform. That's what our bill will do."
"Donald Trump ran as a business person that was going to bring jobs back," Scalise added. "The greatest way is to do that through tax reform. Lower taxes for everybody. Don't say 'hey, I want my taxes lowered, but not theirs.' Let's make America competitive and bring jobs back to America that left foreign companies. . . ."
He also said he does not agree with staggering, for example, corporate tax cuts.
"If you want to get the economy moving, which I do, you do it all immediately," Scalise said. "Whatever you do, if you stagger it or delay it, that means that you'll delay the growth and the success of this economy, and you'll delay the jobs. We don't need to wait. We've been waiting 10 years for real economic growth. Let's get started now."
