President Donald Trump's relationship with top Republican leaders is "fine," White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Thursday, despite his Twitter attacks on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker Paul Ryan.
"The relationships are fine," Sanders told reporters at the daily briefing. "Certainly, there are going to be some policy differences.
"But there are also a lot of shared goals and that's what we're focused on," she added. "We're disappointed that Obamacare, they failed to get it repealed and replaced.
"But at the same time, President Trump has worked with Leader McConnell to reach out to other members and to work on those shared goals.
"We're going continue to do that when the Senate comes back from recess," Sanders said.
Trump has repeatedly bashed McConnell, the six-term Kentucky Republican, over his failure to get the Affordable Care Act repealed and replaced — leading the majority leader to reportedly question privately whether the president can salvage his administration.
The president said Thursday the Obamacare debacle was the "only problem" he had with McConnell, but lashed out in earlier tweets against him and Speaker Ryan over raising the nation's debt ceiling, calling the situation a "mess."
McConnell has praised Trump despite the standoff — and Ryan, of Wisconsin, said the debt ceiling will be raised before next month's deadline, though he brushed off Trump's tweets.
"I'm really not that worried about this," Ryan told CNBC. "We have plenty of options ahead of us."
